Ottawa County, MI (WGHN) – Ottawa County elected officials are set to receive sizable pay raises after the county’s Officers’ Compensation Commission approved increases for 2027 and 2028, including a more than 65% salary hike for county commissioners.
Ottawa News Network reports that the raises for all countywide elected positions are expected to total more than $265,000 over the next two years. Commissioners currently make $20,884, vice chair $21,535, chair $27,127
The new determinations will put the pay at about $36,810 for commissioners, $42,090 for vice chair and $47,368 for chair.
The decision follows a controversial 2024 proposal that sought to boost county commissioners’ salaries by 60%. That plan was later withdrawn after drawing significant public backlash and media scrutiny.
The Officers’ Compensation Commission is a citizen-appointed board created in 2005. Members serve three-year terms and are responsible for determining salaries for Ottawa County elected officials during even-numbered years, with approved changes taking effect in the following odd-numbered years.
