(Grand Rapids, MI) – Governor Gretchen Whitmer says she is not in favor of a state gas tax holiday as prices have hit four-dollars a gallon due to the war with Iran by the U.S. and Israel. She says the state “can’t address all the pressures that we’re feeling because of this war in Iran, but we will continue to put money in people’s pockets.” Whitmer did not rule out a gas tax holiday completely, but added she does not want to over promise people “on something we can’t deliver.”
The state’s gas tax changed on January 1st, with the six-percent sales tax being eliminated and the flat tax rising from 31 to 52-cents per gallon.
