Grand Haven City Council to Discuss Purple Heart Ceremony, Boat Launch Grant

Grand Haven, MI (WGHN) – Grand Haven City Council meets Monday evening with a special work at session where council will hear an Mulligan’s Hollow Ski Bowl Association Update. At 7: 00 p.m the regular meeting takes place.

One of the items on the agenda is Women’s History Month Proclamation by the Human Relations Commission. Consideration by City Council of a resolution to approve the First Annual Tri-Cities Purple Heart Commemoration Ceremony in Escanaba Park on National Purple Heart Day, August 7, 2026, contingent upon support from the Parks and Recreation Board.

The Tri-Cities adopted the designation in August of 2025 to formally honor service members who were wounded or killed in combat. The effort began in July when military historian Dr. Chris Petras proposed the idea and quickly gained support from local leaders, who approved resolutions in all three communities.

American Legion Post 28 helped fund the new roadside signs, continuing its ongoing support of local veterans.
Also on the agenda consideration by City Council of a resolution to approve an application for the DNR Waterways Grant Program for improvements to the Flahive Boat Launch in the amount of $163,813.00 with a 1:1 local match.
The meeting takes place at city hall and is streamed on the City of Grand Haven’s Facebook page.
