(Grand Rapids, MI) – Grand Rapids Mayor David LaGrand, Kent County Commissioner Robert Womack, and other leaders were questioned last night at LaGrand’s monthly meeting about a deadly shooting by Grand Rapids police last week. LaGrand says he could not directly speak about the shooting, but did talk generally and hypothetically about police pursuit policies and training. He says the foundational question is if police are pursuing people that need to be pursued.
Community members also questioned LaGrand on the hiring of the city’s next police chief, with people saying their input needs to be taken seriously.
