FRUITPORT — A Fruitport woman charged with manslaughter in the death of her 11-year-old daughter will not return to court until next month after her preliminary hearing was adjourned Monday.
Sherry Leak is accused in the death of her daughter, Mialah.
A preliminary hearing is held to determine whether there is enough evidence for the case to move forward to trial. The Grand Haven Tribune reports that prosecutors and defense attorneys told the court they needed additional time to review autopsy findings and medical records, which only became available last week.
Leak is accused of sitting on her daughter until the girl lost consciousness, leading to her death on Nov. 23, 2025. Authorities say Leak later called 911 to report what had happened.
