Life EMS Chosen to Replace Trinity Health as Grand Haven Area Ambulance Provider

Grand Haven, MI (WGHN) – Grand Haven Township and Spring Lake have voted to replace their current ambulance provider, Trinity Health, with Life EMS.

The search for a new provider began in June after the Grand Haven Area Ambulance Committee and Trinity Health officials struggled to agree on service expectations and patient-care standards.

The Ambulance Committee includes representatives from Grand Haven, Grand Haven Township, Spring Lake, Spring Lake Township, the Village of Spring Lake, Ferrysburg, Robinson Township, Crockery Township and Port Sheldon Township.

Fox 17 reports that although Trinity Health still meets the requirements set by the county’s Medical Control Authority, Grand Haven Township Fire Chief Shawn Schrader said earlier this year that these standards represented only the minimum level of service. Schrader told trustees the relationship between the committee and Trinity had become misaligned.

The new memorandum of understanding with Life EMS lasts four years and can be extended through three additional two-year terms. It establishes higher expectations for service but will not increase taxes.

Spring Lake and Grand Haven Township have approved the switch, while the city of Grand Haven, Ferrysburg, Robinson Township and Crockery Township are still scheduled to vote. If all are approved, Life EMS will begin serving the area next year, replacing Trinity Health, which has been the provider since taking over North Ottawa Hospital in 2022.
