Grand Haven, MI (WGHN) – The City of Grand Haven is asking residents to share their input as it begins work on next year’s budget.
Every December, the city’s finance department starts assembling the upcoming year’s budget. Under the direction of the City Manager, departments prepare their requests based on expected resources, and early drafts are shaped around the City Council’s strategic goals.
A draft budget is presented to council members in April for feedback. After revisions are made, the final version is approved in May and goes into effect on July 1.
This year, officials want residents to play a greater role in shaping the process and guiding the council’s priorities. The city hopes that an annual satisfaction and budget priority survey will help ensure spending reflects community needs and will provide staff with a tool to track and improve services over time.
City Manager Ashley Latsch:
The Community Satisfaction & Budget Priority Survey is available on the City of Grand Haven’s homepage at grandhaven.org through December 15, 2025. The survey notes that it is meant to capture general public sentiment rather than serve as a scientific poll.
