(Holland, MI) – The J.H. Campbell Complex north of Holland is being ordered a third time by the Trump administration to stay open. The coal-fired power plant was supposed to close in late May of 2025, but the U.S. Department of Energy issued an emergency order preventing that this spring, and extended it in August and November. Consumers Energy operates and partially owns the plant and is among a broad coalition of residents and , environmental activists who say the power plant needs to shut down.
They say the DOE orders are federal overreach, endangering the health and safety of people and the Lake Michigan shoreline environment.
