(New York, NY) — Parts of the Upper Midwest and the Northeast are expecting blizzard warnings and whiteout conditions on Thanksgiving. Forecasters are warning of dangerous driving conditions in states downwind of the Great Lakes, and to avoid traveling in parts of Michigan, Ohio, New York and Pennsylvania on both Wednesday and Thursday.
Here is West Michigan we have a High Wind Warning till 7:00 a.m. Thursday.
WHAT…West winds 25 to 35 mph with gusts up to 60 mph expected.
IMPACTS…Damaging winds will blow down trees and power lines.
Widespread power outages are expected. Travel will be difficult, especially for high profile vehicles.
Winter Weather Advisory remains in effect till 7:00 p.m.
* WHAT...Snow expected. Total snow accumulations between 2 and 4 inches. Winds gusting as high as 60 mph. * WHERE...Kent, Ottawa, and Muskegon Counties. * WHEN...Until 7 PM EST Thursday. * IMPACTS...Roads, and especially bridges and overpasses, will likely become slick and hazardous. Visibility and road conditions may change rapidly over short distances in lake effect snow.
They say the combination of lake-effect snow and 50-mile-an-hour wind gusts will create periods of whiteout conditions across much of the region. Winter weather alerts are being posted from Eastern Minnesota to Upstate New York today through Saturday.
