(Lansing, MI) – Governor Gretchen Whitmer has published an op-ed in the Washington Post, calling for a more strategic national tariff policy. Whitmer says President Trump’s current tariff strategy “is making everything more expensive” and she is willing to work with him “to make life more affordable.” She says Republicans won the White House in 2024 by hammering “relentlessly on the promise to bring down the price of groceries, energy, cars, health care, and housing ‘on day one.'”
Whitmer says instead, food prices are up, new cars cost over 50-thousand-dollars on average, and health care premiums on the Affordable Care Act have doubled or tripled what they were last year.
