Jenison, MI (WGHN) – (WGHN) – Federal investigators say pilot error caused a small plane crash this summer at Riverview Airport in Georgetown Township.
The National Transportation Safety Board found the Cessna 177 veered off the runway during takeoff on July 8 and crashed into a nearby gravel pit pond.
An 84-year-old Hudsonville pilot and his 83-year-old passenger were hospitalized after the crash. The report determined the pilot lost control when the passenger unexpectedly pulled back on the controls during takeoff.
Two bystanders went into the water and helped bring both men to shore before emergency crews arrived.
