(Grand Rapids, MI) – Meijer is going to donate four million dollars to food banks and pantries in all six states it resides in through the company’s Simply Give hunger relief program. The Grand-Rapids based chain will distribute a portion of the funding to eight major food banks with infrastructure capable of serving large numbers of people. The announcement comes as the federal government notified Michigan and other states that SNAP benefits would be paused in November.

The Michigan Department of Health and Human Services said the pause will impact over one million Michiganders who receive SNAP benefits and over 42 million people nationally.
