Rep. Hillary Scholten on Shutdown Day 29

(Washington, DC) — The federal government remains shutdown. The Senate tried again Thursday to end the stalemate, but Democrats are holding firm on demands to save health care subsidies that keep insurance premiums down for millions, while Republicans are refusing to negotiate until the government is reopened. Food assistance benefits are set to expire for millions of Americans this weekend. Twenty-five states are suing the Department of Agriculture over the impending cutoff, but the department says the money is not there.
