Gordie Howe International Bridge 98% Complete

By Mary Ellen Murphy Oct 22, 2025 | 6:39 AM
(Detroit, MI)  —  The Gordie Howe International Bridge is 98-percent complete, but the two-percent left to go involves testing all the technology installed.  Windsor-Detroit Bridge Authority chief relations officer Heather Grondin says they need to make sure the technology works to make the bridge the most technologically advanced border crossing.
She notes it has been almost eight years since ground was broken on both sides of the U.S.-Canadian border for the nearly six-billion-dollar bridge.  Six lanes across the Detroit River will connect Interstate 75 in Detroit to Highway 401 in Windsor.  It will open in early 2026.
