(Lansing, MI) – This is the first Michigan Microplastics Awareness Week. The state Department of Environment, Great Lakes, and Energy director Phil Roos says microplastics are a global issue that touches every part of Michigan. He says the week is about “empowering people with knowledge and actions that make a real difference in keeping our waters clean and healthy for generations to come.”
A virtual Great Lakes Microplastics Summit will be held October 22nd and include community members, advocates, and researchers. EGLE estimates ten-thousand metric tons of plastic enter the Great Lakes every year.
