West Olive, MI (WGHN) – Ottawa County has released audio and minutes from a rare closed-door meeting, revealing discussions over controversial severance packages for two former officials.
The recordings stem from meetings on December 10, 2024, where commissioners debated payouts for former Senior Executive Jordan Epperson and former Interim County Administrator Benjamin Wetmore. The two ultimately received a combined $280,000 to leave their positions at the start of 2025.
The release follows a lawsuit filed by county neighbor Dan Zimmer, who pushed for transparency in the otherwise sealed meetings. The discussions came after Epperson and Wetmore requested early departures ahead of new commissioners being sworn in.
