Grand Haven, MI (WGHN) – The Grand Haven Coast Guard Festival is partnering with the Coast Guard Chief Petty Officers Association Grand Haven Chapter (CPOA) to support our local Coast Guard members through the government shutdown. Starting today non-perishable food items, can be dropped off at the Coast Guard Festival office at 113 N. 2nd St in Grand Haven from 10am – 3pm. Gift cards and monetary donations can be dropped off any time in our mail slot to the right of the front door. If donating by check, please make it out to “Grand Haven CPOA”
On Tuesday, October 14th, beginning at 8am, the CPOA will assist in collecting donations at Coast Guard Station Grand Haven, located at 601 S. Harbor Dr.
Donations will go toward providing food pantries for Coast Guard members at their units and help cover their bills during this uncertain time.
The East End community is coming together to support our Coast Guard families. This Wednesday & Thursday they are giving 5% of sales to our local Coast Guard . They are helping us make sure the funds we raise will get distributed to our local US Coast Guard members and their families. The 5% is in reference to the five Great Lakes that make up only a part of the millions of square miles of territory the United States Coast Guard oversees.

They also have baskets set up at each site for gift card donations – think grocery stores, gas stations, etc…as well as boxes set up for canned and other non-perishable food donations.
The federal government shutdown continues with little signs of progress to end it. The Senate has conducted seven votes on Democratic and Republican plans for short-term funding but all have failed. Senators won’t be back for another effort until tomorrow.
