(Washington, DC) – Congressman Jack Bergman of northern Michigan is calling on Canadian Senator Michael MacDonald to get their government to take action on wildfires. Bergman is a member of the Canada-United States Inter-Parliamentary Group, and MacDonald is the chairman. He expressed concerns about the wildfire smoke that has been causing health issues in Michigan for three consecutive summers. Bergman wants stronger forest management policies enacted in Canada along with more accountability from officials.
In his letter, Bergman notes prescribed burns and proactive mitigation can cut the risk and scale of wildfires. Another Air Quality Alert day for Michigan on Tuesday, August 5.
