Muskegon County, MI – Local officials are urging the public to stay out of the water at several Muskegon County beaches due to high levels of E. coli detected in recent water samples.

The Muskegon County Health Department has issued a Water Quality Advisory for:

  • Hoffmaster State Park Public Beach

  • Hoffmaster Campground Beach

  • Ross Park Beach

While the beaches remain open for on-shore activities, swimming and other water contact is not advised until further notice. Park officials stated on social media that additional water samples are being collected and tested, and the advisory will be lifted once safe levels are confirmed.

The Norton Shores Fire Department confirmed that the advisory is due to elevated E. coli levels, which pose a potential health risk.

Authorities are continuing to investigate the source of contamination in Muskegon County and are working to ensure public safety. TV 13 on Your Side reports that updates will be provided as more information becomes available.
