By Mary Ellen Murphy Jul 14, 2025 | 6:26 AM

(Birmingham, AL) – Hudsonville High School graduate Ethan Carter is hospitalized in Birmingham, Alabama after being shot several times Saturday night.  WOOD TV 8 reports that Carter was shot in his head, throat, chest, hand, and arm, but details have not been released. He graduated from Hudsonville this past spring and was at a sports training program in Alabama.

Carter has committed to playing football at Davenport University.

This is the statement from Hudsonville High School Football.

Dear Football Familes,
It is with heavy hearts that we come to you today asking for your prayers.
Ethan Carter was shot several times last night in his body, skull, hit his neck, through his hand, arm and chest while training in Alabama. By miracle, the shot to his skull did not go through. Praise God! He is currently conscious and has full function this morning, but he is beat up pretty badly. He is currently in a trauma unit in Alabama.
Please see the latest update from Ethan’s mom, Tami:
“Today’s news~
The neurosurgeon was in and he just said that no surgeries required in the current state, there is bruising on the brain but nothing currently to justify surgery. He knows his goals and dreams in regards to football, said no concern about future goals coming from that perspective. While it’s not high on the list for us, we know Ethan’s concerns. He could potentially be released Tuesday but subject to change. There is air in his esophagus from ballistics, so doing an esophageal scope now. Another CT tomorrow to continue monitoring his brain injury.”
The Carter family would appreciate your prayers as they navigate through this time of uncertainty and difficulty.
Sincerely,
Hudsonville Football Committee
