Trump Says Canada Imports To Get 35% Tariff

By Mary Ellen Murphy Jul 11, 2025 | 6:11 AM

(Washington, DC) – The price of numerous new vehicles will likely be going up later this year as President Trump says he will impose a 35-percent tariff on all Canadian imports. Trump told Prime Minister Mark Carney in a letter the tariff will go into effect August 1 and is part of a response to what he called “Canada’s retaliation.”

He accused Canada of not cooperating on key issues such as the flow of fentanyl into the U.S. Many parts for new vehicles cross the border between Detroit and Canada daily during their construction.
