A reading of the Constitution in Grand Haven Monday, June 9

By Mary Ellen Murphy Jun 9, 2025 | 6:46 AM

Grand Haven, MI (WGHN) – Community members are encouraged to bring their own lawn chairs and join in reading aloud, or simply attend to listen and support the effort. The reading is organized by ONTRAC (Ottawa North Tri-Cities Action Committee), a multipartisan political action group committed to civic education and increasing public engagement in local government.

No additional commentary or discussion will take place during the reading, just the words of the Constitution, spoken by residents from across the community. This event is the first in a series of public Constitution readings ONTRAC plans to host in various public spaces throughout the summer.

ONTRAC was originally formed in Ottawa County’s District 10 to oppose political extremism in local government and to promote broad-based engagement in democracy.  In 2023, the Ottawa County Board of Commissioners formally designated the county as a “constitutional county.” ONTRAC’s reading series is designed to explore what that designation truly means by revisiting the full text of the Constitution in a public, accessible way.
