Grand Haven, MI (WGHN) – During Wednesday night’s special board meeting, the Grand Haven Area Public Schools Board of Education approved a one-time Voluntary Severance Plan (VSP) for eligible Grand Haven Education Association (GHEA) and Grand Haven Area Professional School Administrators Association (GHAPSAA) members.

Superintendent Kristen Perkowski:

The severance plan option is available for teachers and school administrators who are 50 years of age or older and have at least eight years of service with the district. Following the plan, the district will offer eligible employees a $50,000 incentive (paid in two installments) for those who voluntarily resign or retire by July 30, 2025.

Michael MacDonald, GHAPS Executive Director of Business Services, said the plan was designed to help address continued enrollment decline and close the district’s remaining budget gap.

Savings to the district would average about $75,000 for each position that could be absorbed through attrition in year one, and approximately $140,000 per year after that when accounting for salaries and benefits of those eligible for the plan.
