(Webber Township, MI) – The North Lake Correctional Facility in Webber Township will soon reopen to house inmates held by U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement. The prison has been closed for nearly three years and is owned by Florida-based GEO Group. GEO Group says they reached a contract agreement with ICE earlier this year and will reopen the prison for “immediate activation of a federal immigration processing center.” About 500 guards and medical staff have begun training at the facility, which will now become the largest employer in the county.

There has been no word on an official reopening date for the facility.
