Grand Haven, MI 9WGHN) –  A proposed hotel project in downtown Grand Haven took a major step forward as city commissioners approved a zoning change following input from developers and residents. The hotel, a Residence Inn by Marriott is planned to be five stories tall with 126 rooms, would be located at the corner of Washington Avenue and Third Street. Parking for the site is proposed along Columbus Avenue.

Former Ottawa County Commissioner and now board member of GH Main Street Roger Bergman spoke during public comment addressing parking.

Peter Beukema, CEO of 6PM Hospitality, addressed concerns about the hotel’s design, emphasizing the company’s efforts to maintain the look and feel of downtown and the economic impact.

They hope to preserve parts of the old bank currently on the property as they move forward with the project.

Concerns were also raised about the potential strain on parking and the overall impact on the town’s charm. With the zoning change approved, the next step for the hotel is review and consideration by the city’s planning commission.
