Grand Haven, MI (WGHN) – The Fulton Avenue Reconstruction Project is in full swing and the city of Grand Haven is giving updates every week.
This week’s project activities:
· Water main installation between 1st and 2nd Streets is the primary focus this week as crews work their way from 2nd/Fulton to the connection at 1st Street.
· Tree removals began yesterday, May 27th, as confirmed last week. They will continue to be removed today. Tree removals are necessary for utility replacements that interfere with new utilities. Trees will be replaced in the spring following construction.
The upcoming construction schedule is outlined below:
Week of June 2nd
· Brenner Excavating will continue installing the water main, followed by water main testing.
· Sanitary sewer is anticipated to begin being installed mid-week and continue into the following week.
Upcoming: 1st to 2nd Street storm sewer installation, road rebuilding, curbs, gutters, paving, and restoration. We will provide an update as soon as possible regarding when construction activity will begin from 2nd to 3rd Street.
Access to Properties
Access to properties will be maintained unless active construction is occurring in front of your driveway. If you have any questions or concerns about where to park, please look for the on-site inspector (Mark Anthony with Abonmarche Engineering) or approach one of the contractors to help you. Please feel free to also reach out to me at 616-502-2674.
Services to Properties
Trash—Your trash service will continue as usual moving forward. If construction is happening in your block, please place your containers on the nearest side street, and Republic will pick them up there. If you need help identifying where to place your container or have issues moving your trash, please let me know so we can facilitate a solution.
Mail – Your USPS mail service will not be interrupted, so there is no need to worry about not receiving any mailings.
Delivery Services—You will always be able to receive deliveries or packages at your property during the project. If there are extenuating circumstances surrounding a delivery, please contact me, and we will help facilitate those needs.
Emergency Services – The contractor will always maintain emergency access to your property. This is not only for your health and safety but also for fire responses.
If you have additional needs during this time, please share those needs or any concerns with me. Please let me know if you experience any issues so I can follow up.
Traffic Control
Fulton Avenue from 1st to 2nd Street remains closed to through traffic. Please continue to be cautious and aware of detour routes. Accidents can and do happen, and our goal is to have zero issues. This will take everyone’s diligence during the project. Please be sure to use caution and be very observant when driving through the project area.
Site Safety
No accidents have been reported this week. Thank you to all the residents for their attention to safety as you drive to and from your homes.
Project Summary
As a reminder, the entire project includes Fulton Avenue from First to Fifth Streets and will replace underground utilities, street surface, curb, gutter, and sidewalks. The project has received significant funding from MDOT. As a result, the contracted work was procured through MDOT, and the selected contractor is Brenner Excavating. The initial work will occur from First to Second Street and take approximately four weeks. Work will proceed in small, carefully managed block-by-block sections to minimize disruption to the surrounding area. The construction footprint will be minimal, but some materials, equipment, and vehicles will be outside the active construction area. The entire project is expected to last until mid-November.
Thank you to the residents directly impacted by the reconstruction work. We appreciate your patience, understanding, and communication during the project. We know construction is messy, noisy, and inconvenient, so we will do our best to minimize the inconvenience while updating this critical infrastructure. The project team is committed to an efficient and safe project so you can return to normal as soon as possible.
