(Detroit, MI) – Planned Parenthood of Michigan is bracing for fallout from a federal spending bill that could slash billions from Medicaid. Although the state hasn’t received an official notice yet, the organization has already closed three health centers and consolidated two others. Advocates warn the cuts would reduce access not just to abortion care, but also to vital services like cancer screenings, birth control, and general checkups, particularly in low-income areas. Nearly two-point-six million Michiganders rely on Medicaid, including children, seniors, and people with disabilities.
The bill is expected to head to the U.S. Senate for a vote by July 4th.
