(Grand Rapids, MI) – Corewell Health is now using a cutting-edge ultrasound device to treat certain liver cancers, and early results are promising. Corewell Health radiologist James Morrison says the key to the tool is its precision.
The technology, developed by HistoSonics out of the University of Michigan, uses focused sound waves to destroy tumors without harming nearby tissue. Approved by the FDA last year, it’s currently cleared for liver cancer but could expand to other organs like the kidney and pancreas. Doctors say the treatment has been well tolerated by patients. Corewell is one of just 30 hospitals nationwide offering the procedure.
