Allendale, MI — (WGHN) – A high-speed crash late Monday night sent a 25-year-old Grand Rapids woman to the hospital with serious facial injuries, according to the Ottawa County Sheriff’s Office. Around 11:37 p.m., a sheriff’s deputy near Lake Michigan Drive and 68th Avenue heard the crash and discovered a heavily damaged 2006 Honda Civic in front of the Allendale Township Fire Station at 6660 Lake Michigan Dr.
Witnesses reported the vehicle was traveling eastbound at a very high speed when it lost control, struck a curb, and collided with a Consumer’s Energy power pole. The impact caused the car to split into two pieces and severely damaged the pole.
The female passenger was transported by LIFE EMS Ambulance to Corewell Health in Grand Rapids. The male driver, also 25 and from Grand Rapids, was arrested at the scene and is currently receiving treatment at Zeeland Community Hospital.
Responding agencies included the Ottawa County Sheriff’s Office, Allendale Township Fire Department, Consumer’s Energy, and Hudsonville Towing. The crash remains under investigation.
