Jackson, MI (WGHN) – Consumers Energy has released a statement on the order from the Trump administration to keep the J.H. Campbell coal plant running through the summer, just weeks before its planned closure.
Brian Wheeler, Media Relations Specialist released the following statement:
Consumers Energy plans to comply with the Department of Energy order. We are pausing decommissioning activities at the Campbell plant and will operate it in compliance with the order, working in conjunction with MISO. The company is actively working to determine appropriate cost recovery consistent with applicable law and the federal order.
Energy Secretary Chris Wright invoked emergency powers to delay the shutdown, citing concerns over power demand and grid reliability. State regulators and Consumers Energy say there is no emergency, and environmental groups condemned the move as political interference that could raise costs and stall Michigan’s transition to cleaner energy.
The 90-day order expires August 21st. More on the story here.
