Armed Ohio Woman Taken Into Protective Custody

Grand Haven, MI (WGHN) – A 32-year-old woman was taken into protective custody after a brief standoff with Grand Haven Public Safety near North Shore Marina on Monday around 2:20 p.m.
The woman was experiencing a mental health crisis and was armed with a registered firearm in her vehicle. Officers from the Grand Haven Department of Public Safety were able to communicate with her and facilitate her surrender. Assistance was also provided by her family, who were located in Ohio, as well as the Ottawa County Central Dispatch Authority. A Public Safety Officer certified in Crisis Intervention and a member of the Ottawa County Sheriff’s Department were present at the scene during the incident.
Since the woman legally possessed the firearm, she is not facing any criminal charges. Following the incident, she was transported to the Holland Hospital for an evaluation.
Grand Haven Public Safety was assisted by Ferrysburg Fire Department and Trinity Grand Haven Ambulance.
