(Lansing, MI) – Michigan Attorney General Dana Nessel says her office has concluded that Secretary of State Jocelyn Benson violated the Michigan Campaign Finance Act on January 22. That is the day Benson announced she was running for governor from the lobby of the Richard H. Austin Building. The Michigan Republican Party filed a complaint, saying using the lobby of the state office building for the announcement broke the law.
Nessel agreed, but says her office has no authority to impose civil or criminal penalties for the violation.
