(Grand Rapids, MI) – The jury of 14 people and two alternates has been selected for the second-degree murder trial of former Grand Rapids police officer Christopher Schurr. He is accused of killing Patrick Lyoya after a traffic stop in April 2022 when the two were fighting over the officer’s Taser. Schurr is white, Lyoya was Black, and the jury is ten white people, three Hispanic people, and a biracial woman.
Defense attorney Matthew Borgula says he is happy with the jury makeup and says the case is not race-based.
