West Olive, MI (WGHN) – The Ottawa County Board of Commissioners meet today. The board is looking into taking legal action to keep Consumers Energy from closing its J.H. Campbell coal plant at the end of next month. Commissioner Jordan Jorritsma says the plant is “perfectly operable.”
The utility says they will shut down its final coal-fired power plant on May 31st and demolish it next year. The plant has been running since 1962 and generates enough electricity to power a million homes. At least two commissioners, however, are opposed to litigation to try to keep the plant open.
Sri Mannapati is Vice President of Electric Supply for CMS and Consumers Energy:
The meeting will be streamed on the county YouTube page and via Zoom. Agenda here.
