State Officials Say Medicaid Funding Cuts Would Impact 750,000 Michiganders

(Lansing, MI) – State health officials say the proposed funding cuts to Medicaid being discussed in the U.S. House would impact healthcare coverage for around 750-thousand Michiganders. One in four residents of the state are covered by Medicaid, with over 40-percent of children covered by Medicaid along with over 33-percent of people in rural Michigan. Michigan would lose over 20-billion-dollars in Medicaid funding over a decade if the cuts are approved.

The state Department of Labor and Economic Opportunity and Department of Health and Human Services and the Michigan Hospital Association are urging Congress to protect the funding.
