(Saranac, MI) – The CEO of Herbruck’s Poultry Ranch, Michigan’s largest egg producer, says the industry needs to have egg-laying hens vaccinated for avian influenza. Greg Herbruck says they had to cull their entire supply of chickens in 2024 due to the bird flu and the virus is behind the egg shortage. He says the vaccine is already available in other countries, but has not been allowed in the U.S. yet by the U.S. Department of Agriculture.
Herbruck says there are too many empty chicken houses across the country right now.
