(Lansing, MI) – State lawmakers have approved a bill to reform paid sick time laws at 10:40 p.m. Thursday ahead of a midnight deadline. The House bill blocks a 2018 ballot initiative from going into effect today that would have required companies with at least ten employees to give workers up to 72-hours of paid sick leave a year, and smaller companies would have had to provide at least 40 hours. Small businesses will not be required to offer at least 40-hours of paid sick leave until October 1 now.
The bill joins Senate Bill 8 to preserve the tipped wage for servers and bartenders and both are expected to be signed by Governor Whitmer.
