Grand Haven, Mi (WGHN) – A suspect is in custody after a stand off that lasted over five hours in Grand Haven. Grand Haven Public Safety responded to a complaint of an assault around 10:30 a.m. Monday that occurred at a residence in the 800 block of Franklin. The incident involved an individual with a firearm inside the home.
Upon arrival, officers attempted to contact the occupant but were unsuccessful. Due to the serious nature of the situation, a perimeter was established around the area. After multiple attempts to make contact with the occupant and considering the severity of the incident, the Ottawa County Sheriff’s Department Critical Response Team was requested.
After an extensive negotiation period, the subject was apprehended using less lethal force. The individual has been charged with two counts of felonious assault and will be lodged at Ottawa County Jail after being medically cleared.
The subject’s identity will be disclosed once they are arraigned on the charges.
There was no threat to the surrounding community, including schools located several blocks away. Public Safety and Ottawa County Dispatch worked diligently to inform residents and businesses in the area about the situation. Additionally, nearby schools were notified prior to dismissal.
