Byron Twp., MI (WGHN) – A 39-year-Holland woman has died in a fiery crash in Byron Township. Kent County Deputies were dispatched to the area of 100th Street SW near Homrich Ave SE around 10:40 p.m. Friday.
Upon arrival deputies learned that a woman had been driving westbound on 100th Street when she lost control of the vehicle on an ice covered section of the road. The vehicle left the roadway, hit a tree and then became engulfed in flames. The driver was able to escape but a 43-year-old passenger, Stephanie Deridder of Holland, was seriously hurt and had to be extricated by fire personnel.
The sheriff’s office said Deridder died despite life-saving measures.
Deputies do not believe that alcohol was a factor.
