(ZEELAND TOWNSHIP)-The Ottawa County Sheriff’s Office says white-out conditions and slick rids were the key factor in a 15-car accident near the 59-mile marker on eastbound I-196 this morning.
Crews arriving on the scene at 11:30 also found additional vehicles had gone off the pavement to avoid the multi-vehicle crash.
In the original accident, a 55-year-old Freeport man was injured when his pickup truck slid underneath a semi-truck.
He was hospitalized with non-life-threatening injuries.
Eastbound I-196 was closed between Exit 55 and Exit 62 for four hours.
