(Grand Rapids, MI) – The U.S. Attorney for the Western District of Michigan, Mark Totten, is leaving the post effective Monday, January 20. Totten was appointed by President Joe Biden and will leave the office the day Biden turns over the White House to President-elect Donald Trump.
Under him, former state House Speaker Rick Johnson was prosecuted for bribery and corruption; Arisknight Winfree was convicted of luring and assaulting a teenage girl from Italy; and two brothers from Nigeria were convicted of running a sextortion scheme that resulted in a 17-year-old boy from Marquette taking their own life.
Dawn Ison, the U.S. Attorney for the Eastern District of Michigan, is resigning effective Sunday while Mark Totten is leaving office at 11:58 a.m. Monday, one minute before Trump is sworn in. The resignations are customary for people that were appointed by the President who is leaving office.
