Michigan Working To Limit Avian Influenza Spread

By Mary Ellen Murphy Jan 10, 2025 | 5:53 AM

(Lansing, MI) – State officials are working to limit the spread of avian flu in Michigan. Two people in the state have fallen sick with it, but Michigan chief medical executive Dr. Natasha Bagdasarian says those cases were “very mild” and both have recovered. Director of the Michigan Department of Agriculture and Rural Development Tim Boring says the spillover to dairy cattle in the spring of 2024 was a “first of its kind” event that they have needed to deal with.

He says there is no danger to people if they cook their eggs and poultry, and the state is also testing raw milk.
