Grand Haven, MI (WGHN) – Lake effect snow and poor road conditions caused a multiple vehicle crash on US-31 near Van Wagoner at 3:00 p.m. Wednesday afternoon.
The Ottawa County Sheriff’s Office says investigation on scene revealed that the multi vehicle crash involved 5 vehicles that were traveling south on US-31 near Van Wagoner. The lead vehicle in the line of 5 vehicles was slowing on the roadway due to poor road conditions caused by heavy snow and for a separate crash that had just occurred south of this location. The vehicles that were following the lead vehicle were unable to stop in assured clear distance, which caused a chain reaction resulting in multiple vehicles crashing.
Occupants were cleared on-scene for minor injuries. US-31 was closed for an extended to time to investigate and clean up the crash. The crash remains under investigation by the Ottawa County Sheriff’s Office.
