(Lansing, MI) – It remains to be seen if Michigan lawmakers will change the law that could end tips for bartenders and servers in the state. Lawmakers have til Thursday to change the law that would eliminate a tipped wage, and force all restaurants and bars to pay every worker 15 dollars an-hour. House Republicans in Lansing say that law needs to be changed or Michigan could see a wave of restaurant closings, and the bartenders and servers who work there would see less money. Republicans walked out of the Capitol in protest on Friday after they said House Democrats scuttled any possible changes. Democratic leaders are accusing Republicans of playing political games.
If there’s not a vote this week, a new Republican-majority house would take up the plan after the new year. The law to end a tipped minimum wage is set to take effect in February.
