Ottawa County, MI – December 9, 2024 – The Ottawa County Sheriff’s Office and Sheriff-Elect Eric DeBoer are pleased to announce the appointment of David Kok as the new Undersheriff, effective January 6, 2025. Kok brings with him over 25 years of law enforcement leadership experience, a distinguished career marked by his expertise in police operations, training, corrections, and community engagement.

Kok’s background includes his recent role as Police and Corrections Academy Director for Grand Rapids Community College, where he oversaw corrections and law enforcement training programs. Prior to that, he served as Chief Deputy of the Kent County Sheriff’s Corrections Division from December 2018 to November 2021, managing the agency’s operations, personnel, and recruitment efforts, and leading a team of more than 250 deputies.

“Director Kok’s long history of leadership in the areas of patrol and corrections, his dedication to mentoring new recruits through both the corrections and police academies, and his experience leading an agency with similar values through times of agency growth make him a perfect choice for the position of Undersheriff here at the Ottawa County Sheriff’s Office,” Sheriff-Elect Eric DeBoer said.

Kok’s leadership experience also includes serving as Captain of Road Patrol at the Kent County Sheriff’s Office, where he directed road patrol operations. Additionally, Kok has expertise in Community Policing, Critical Incident Stress Management, and Training and Project Management.

“I am very excited to bring his thoughts and ideas into our conversations about what the future holds for the Sheriff’s Office,” DeBoer added.

Kok holds a Bachelor’s degree in Criminal Justice/Police Science from Grand Valley State University and has completed advanced leadership programs including the FBI National Academy and the School of Staff and Command at Michigan State University.

The Ottawa County Sheriff’s Office is excited to welcome David Kok and is confident that his experience will greatly benefit both the office and the community
