(Grand Rapids, MI) – The 12-year-old girl who escaped an attempted sexual assault Tuesday morning while she was waiting for her school bus in Grand Rapids is speaking out about the experience. The seventh-grade student says she was scared by 25-year-old Marquis Martinez, who approached her around 6:45 a.m. when she was in the area of Ball Avenue NE and Bradford Street. She says Martinez put his hand over her mouth, grabbed her waist, and told her to walk across the street and told her he wanted “to have fun.”
The girl says she dropped her cell phone when he was trying to get his hands in her pants and was able to get away when he stepped back so she could pick the phone up. Martinez is held on a 500-thousand-dollar bond.
