(Ottawa Co., MI) – After years of trying the sheriff of Ottawa County will be getting body cams for his deputies. Issues like how to store large amounts of data and working out the processing of what footage would be seen by the public in a freedom of information request contributed to the delay. Steve Kempker says body cams were one of his first priorities when he was elected sheriff in 2016. At their meeting yesterday the Ottawa County’s Board of Commissioners approved the purchase of about 220 body cameras and related equipment.
The cameras are expected to be operational early next year.
