DNR Looking For Alligator In Crockery Lake

By Mary Ellen Murphy Aug 6, 2024 | 6:08 AM

(Chester Township, MI) – The Michigan Department of Natural Resources is searching for an alligator in Crockery Lake in northern Ottawa County. Sharon Vandevrede and her husband saw the gator, which is about four-and-a-half-feet long, on July 25th in the sandy part of their yard by the water and they were the first to report it. DNR Lieutenant Gerald Thayer says alligators occasionally show up in Michigan waters and normally were released by someone who had found a baby gator down south and then released it when it got bigger.

He says alligators normally are not aggressive toward humans, but they have posted signs along the shore as a precaution.
