By Mary Ellen Murphy May 13, 2024 | 9:05 AM

Grand Haven, MI (WGHN) – Dr. Jannah Thompson earned her medical degree at Michigan State University – College of Human Medicine. Her clinical interests include pelvic prolapse and pelvic floor dysfunction, as well as bladder conditions including incontinence and overactive bladder. Dr. Thompson believes that the quality of a woman’s life is every bit as important as the clinical outcome of her treatment. She strives to understand how a patient views her condition and how it impacts her life and would tell her patients that most women feel vulnerable when sharing sensitive and embarrassing experiences related to their pelvic condition. She hopes to help women better understand their conditions and treatment options, while providing clear council and compassionate care.

In her free time, Dr. Thompson enjoys spending time with her family. She also enjoys adventure and travel and would consider herself a Detroit Tigers enthusiast. Through careful diagnosis and treatment of the following urogynecology issues, our experts will restore patients to a better quality of life using minimally invasive methods.

Importance of Pelvic Health:
• Pelvic health is essential for women’s overall well-being and quality of life.
• A strong and functioning pelvic floor provides support to vital organs, such as the bladder,
uterus, and rectum.
• Maintaining pelvic health is particularly crucial for mothers, as pregnancy and childbirth can
strain these muscles and tissues.
Common Challenges Postpartum:
• Postpartum, many mothers experience pelvic health issues, including pelvic organ prolapse,
urinary incontinence, and pelvic floor dysfunction.
• Pelvic organ prolapse occurs when the pelvic organs shift from their normal position, often
causing discomfort and a sensation of pressure.
• Urinary incontinence, both stress and urge, can be prevalent postpartum due to weakened
pelvic floor muscles.
• Pelvic floor dysfunction encompasses a range of symptoms, including pain, discomfort, and
difficulties with bowel or bladder control.

Role of Urogynecologists:
• Urogynecologists are specialized physicians who focus on the diagnosis and treatment of pelvic
floor disorders in women.
• These experts play a vital role in assessing and addressing pelvic health concerns, offering
personalized treatment plans tailored to each patient’s needs.
• Urogynecologists employ a variety of techniques, including pelvic floor exercises, lifestyle
modifications, and surgical interventions, to improve pelvic health and enhance quality of life.
• It’s crucial for mothers experiencing pelvic health issues to seek the expertise of a
urogynecologist for proper diagnosis and management.
