(Ottawa County, MI) – A Coopersville man who is accused of assaulting his step-granddaughter is accepting a plea deal. Stephen Chesla is accused of sexually assaulting the child in 2020 and had been granted a retrial after being convicted and sentenced to a minimum of 35-years in prison. Instead of the new trial taking place, Chesla has pleaded guilty to assault with intent to commit criminal sexual conduct and in exchange, other charges were dropped.

He was sentenced to a minimum of 80-months, or around six-and-a-half-years, in prison.
